Results / RS Vareo Racing Circuit Event Burghfield SC - 04/04/2009

The first RS Racing Circuit Event of the season for the Vareos was at Burgfield on Saturday April 4th. 22 boats arrived to perfect RS Vareo weather - force 2 with the forecast to increase as the day went on.

Race one started in bright sunshine with a beat halfway up the lake. First to the mark was Jeremy Symons from Llandegfedd closely followed by Mark Williams with the rest of the fleet close behind. After two laps the wind shifted making it almost a buoy to buoy course in which time Williams overtook Symonds who in turn was then passed by the ever impressive Richard Willows .

The course had to be changed just slightly due the wind shift for race two Willows took the lead from the off with the first six boats all within a couple of boat lenghs of each other. After much place swapping the shortened course flag went up Willows held on to win with Matt Yallop coming from 6th to finish in second, Williams held on well to finish in third & Nigel Tinkler came a very close fourth. By now it was time for lunch so ashore the whole fleet went.

Race three started in slightly more wind with gusts up to a force four. The pecking order changed with the wind coming up. In the lead was Yallop closely followed by Andy Temple and Andrew Wilson in third after numorus place changes throughout the fleet & gusts now coming down the lake a few people started to find the conditions tough going. On the last leg to the finish Temple went to the middle of the lake & found more breeze. Yallop held on to 2nd with Wilson coming in close behind.

Race four started in a steady three to four. Temple left the line like a rocket showing the fleet how to sail in the windy stuff  followed by Wilson. The two seemed to have the burners on as they pulled away from the rest of the fleet. Temple had the edge upwind with Wilson catching up downwind. At the finish it was Temple followed by Wilson & Yallop in third. Willows took fourth just doing enough to take the event on count back.

A great season opener for the RS Vareos with a few new faces on the circuit its going to be a great year. Many thanks to Burgfield for hosting the event which was so well planned they even arranged for the sun to come out .
